Telset.id, Jakarta – Who says playing games is only for lazy and unintelligent people. In fact, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of York, Toronto, gamers including people who are smart or have intelligence above average.
Quoting from page Tech Radar, researchers found that gamers of type multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) has a very high level of intelligence. The reason is, because to play MOBA games like DoTA 2 and League of Legends (LoL) has a difficult learning curve.

They gave an example, in the two games there are many hero, skills, and items they have to remember. What’s more, gamers also have to remember the right mix of one hero with items to win the game. Not to mention, determining when the players should release their skills is very important.
“MOBA players rely on memory and the ability to make strategic decisions by considering several factors,” said Athanasios Kokkinakis, who was one of the researchers on the experiment.
Furthermore, one of the supervisors of this experiment, Alex Wade explained that this type of game will further spur gamers’ intelligence to develop.
“Games like LoL and DoTA 2 are complex, have high social interaction, and require high intellectuality. Our research will show that your performance in this game can be a measure of intelligence,” explains Alex.
He also compares that games like LoL and DoTA 2 have the same effect as chess athletes, who are highly intelligent.

“Past research has pointed to the fact that people who are good at strategy games like chess tend to score high on IQ tests. Our research has extended this to games which millions of people around the planet play every day,” he added.
