48 Esports Teams Ready to Compete at PON XX Papua 2021

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – A new milestone was inscribed by national esports through the implementation of the 2021 PON XX Papua Esports Exhibition which was officially opened today at the Indoor Hockey Field, Doyo Baru, Jayapura Regency.

This achievement is not only expected to excite the dynamics and strengthen the country’s esports ecosystem, but also has the potential to spur an increase in the contribution of Indonesia’s digital economy.

Deputy General Chairperson/Daily Chair of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI), Commissioner General Pol. Drs. Bambang Sunarwibowo, SH, M. Hum said that holding the 2021 PON XX Papua Esports Exhibition has a broad mission and meaning.

In addition to the development and barometer of national esports achievements fostered by the regions, the success of the 2021 PON XX Papua Esports Exhibition has the potential to encourage the pace of the digital creative economy which is driven by the growing growth of the local game developer industry and other related creative businesses.

Three provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, Papua and West Papua, became the provinces that passed their athletes in all categories of competitions.

“The esports ecosystem covers a wide range of fields, from sports and sports, digital industries such as game developers and platforms, e-commerce, financial technology, media, to tourism,” said Bambang.

“Through the PON XX Papua 2021 Esports Exhibition which we will hold until September 26, we want to convey a message to the world about the great potential of the Indonesian esports industry, Indonesia’s readiness to host esports-tourism international scale, and optimism for the realization of Indonesia Gold’s vision as a global digital economy power in 2045.”

High interest in the midst of the country’s rapid growth rate of esports

The implementation of the 2021 PON XX Papua Esports Exhibition got a high response from Indonesian esports people. This event was successful 49,905 athletes and 10,877 esports teams potential from 34 provinces that registered on the Garudaku.com platform to compete to show their best skills in the provincial level qualification round (25 August – 5 September) and the Pre-PON qualification round (7-14 September) to win tickets to Papua.

They competed in 4 (four) competition categories, namely PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2021.

PUBG Mobile was attended by 19,664 athletes from 4,916 teams, Free Fire was attended by 13,608 athletes from 3,402 teams, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was attended by 11,985 athletes from 2,397 teams, while PES 2021 was attended by 3,838 athletes.

Along with the 2021 PON XX Papua Esports Exhibition, PBESI also held a friendly match for Lokapala, a MOBA genre game created by the nation’s children, Anantarupa Studios.

Carrying the mission of empowering the local game industry, the Lokapala friendly match was attended by 810 athletes from 162 teams.

“A total of 188 athletes from 48 teams from 25 provinces have successfully passed the Pre-PON qualifying round and are ready to fight for the best throne in Papua.

Interestingly, the power of esports in the country looks more evenly distributed and is no longer dominated by the island of Java.

The main stage of the PON XX Papua 2021 Esports Exhibition will showcase the expertise of potential talents and strong teams from Bali, Bangka Belitung, Banten, Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, West Java, Central Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Maluku, North Maluku, NTT, Papua, West Papua, Riau, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi and South Sumatra,” said Bambang.

The distribution of power and the absorption of high public interest cannot be separated from the existence of the Indonesian Esports Regional Management which has been established in 34 provinces and 489 regencies or cities. PBESI’s development in reaching all provinces in Indonesia is relatively fast considering that this esports parent organization was only officially formed in 2021.
