Recap of Day Five Main Event DotA 2 TI8
The fifth day of the main DotA 2 TI8 event became very difficult for Team Liquid because they had to play in two matches. As a result, Team Liquid was unable to play optimally in this DotA 2 TI8 eSports championship, and had to be eliminated with Team Secret. On the fifth day of the main event of The International 2021, OG and EG performed brilliant games to beat their opponents.
Lower Bracket Fourth Round
Team Liquid ended Team Secret’s dream of getting Aegis at The International 2021 DotA 2 tournament. This year, Team Secret achieved their best result during their time at The International, but in the end, they remained only in the top 6 positions. It’s an honorable position, but it’s not what captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov wanted when he set foot in Vancouver for this DotA 2 TI8.
Team Liquid versus Team Secret was the first match on the fifth day of the DotA 2 TI8 main event at Rogers Arena. To the surprise of all who watched DotA 2 TI8, the reigning champions were allowed to have Broodmother in the first round. Team Liquid is famous for being able to play the hero well. Other draft heroes align with broodmother for fast ending play. Meanwhile, Team Secret’s draft hero was chosen to play in the old game.
In the Team Secret draft, Puppey chose Alchemist as his team’s last choice. He wants to rely on the Alchemist’s ability to give Aghanim Scepter’s permanent buff effect to other friends’ heroes. However, Team Liquid wanted to continue to end the game quickly. They continued to take over Roshan’s pit, and kept pressing Team Secret, so that when the game turned to a long game, Team Secret failed to shine.
Right after Alchemist got the Aghanim Scepter to give to Storm Spirit, Team Liquid was still able to take barracks from both Team Secret paths. However, Team Secret still put up a fight thanks to the Storm Spirit given by Aghanim, before Team Liquid was finally able to finish the first round in 50 minutes.
In the second half, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov still believed that his team could beat Broodmother, thus allowing Lasse Aukusti “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen to play the hero once again. Not only that, even though they were on the edge of elimination, Team Secret also allowed Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi to be able to play his flagship Invoker.
To make it easier for the game to attack and defend, Team Liquid added two heroes to support Winter Wyvern, and Dark Willow. Meanwhile, Team Secret’s draft was superior to Team Liquid. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov played an unbalanced draft by relying on the Monkey King game which unfortunately has not been able to bring the game to Team Secret’s victory. Team Liquid won the second round and advanced to round 5 of the lower bracket of DotA 2 TI8 to compete against Evil Geniuses.
Upper Bracket Final
The upper bracket finals became one of the craziest matches ever played in a DotA 2 TI8 main event. OG beat PSG.LGD with a score of 2-1 to reach the grand final of The International 2021. Gyro-Io is a combo that is often used in DoTA 2 TI8. However, OG was not seen playing that Gyro in DotA 2 TI8, which is why PSG.LGD allowed this combo to be used by OG. This omission is also due to PSG.LGD having beaten Team Liquid who used this combo at The International 2021, so they let it go.
PSG.LGD chose Huskar last. However, Pugna was key to OG, who didn’t let Huskar dominate the line. Topson was able to get a solo kill against Huskar in the middle lane. On the other hand, ana shows that he is able to play using the Gyro like any other hero he has played. Meanwhile, Io who becomes a Gyro combo is played by Jerax who is very good at playing this support role.
Huskar never managed to find his best point, he was killed 13 times in the match. Even when LGD had Aegis, OG was still more capable of controlling team fights. Topson plays Pugna with the Dagon build. This build may not be the best for killing a Huskar, but he was able to lower the HP of Ame’s Huskar from 70% HP to 0 in less than a second towards the end of the game, which is certainly amazing.
N0tail’s Wraith King went crazy when LGD came hunting, he was able to withstand the hero’s attacks and his Reincarnation skill ensured OG still had five members when a team fight occurred. OG finally ended the match in 49 minutes. PSG.LGD had a good time to play, but Gyrocopter, with Wisp behind him, was still too strong to attack while defending.
In the second half PSG.LGD got Storm Spirit. The selected Enchantress and Earthshaker are able to ensure OG.ana does not have a good path. Bloodseeker was killed several times on the way. Topson plays Invoker in this second half and drives everyone crazy when he launches Meteor Hammer over enemy heroes. This item is great for solo kills, but when it’s gank, there’s no time to channel it.
Invoker’s game got worse and OG became dependent on Ana to take over, but that never really happened. There are some good gank strategies from OG, but once Clinkz and Storm get their BKB, they become hard to hunt. Storm, finally, took over the game. PSG.LGD ended the second half in 37 minutes. In this second act, like the first, Enchantress played a major role for the winning team.
The third round draft was opened by OG with Specter, just like the third round against Evil Geniuses. LGD chose the Terrorblade that Ame used to deal with. fy is given Clockwerk, a hero that hasn’t been chosen much in DotA 2 TI8 but in the hands of players like fy, very effective. The game started well for PSG.LGD with Clockwerk moving all over the map.
After control of the game back and forth, PSG.LGD managed to take the lead after a few ganks. Ana has to buyback to save her base, but dies again. In the chaos, OG manages to shut down the Terrorblade. Knowing that ana has no buyback, Ame buys back and teleports to join the team in an attempt to finish the game. But OG is waiting patiently. Jerax’s Echo Slam comes in flawlessly, and even though Ame does Sundered to stay alive, without Metamorphosis and BKB, she’s not nearly as dangerous as she could be. With Ame and Mirana dying without a buyback, OG head to PSG.LGD to complete the third round of the bracket final over The International 2021. They finally reached the grand final of DotA 2 TI8.
Bottom Bracket Fifth Round
After OG to the grand final of DotA 2 TI8 through an interesting match, Evil Geniuses continued the day in the same way as OG did. They ended Team Liquid Liquid’s run in The International 2021 in an interesting way too.
The defending champion, in the first round, used the bloodlust strategy. Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi, was ordered to play Chaos Knight while Matumbaman had to play Venomancer. Evil Geniuses get Storm Spirit which is SumaiL’s mainstay hero. The laning stage went well for Liquid who took the lead in kill scores and also gold at 30 minutes.
EG who had Ursa on their side, exercised complete control of the Roshan hole area, allowing them to prolong the game. Cornered, Team Liquid built up the defense. Four of them made Hearth of Tarrasque, but meanwhile they focused on how best to defend the top lane. When Sumail bought Stick Aghanim, his initiation was absolutely spot on, always capturing the majority of Team Liquid players. Miracle- tried to save the game with the purchase of a Divine Rapier in the 52nd minute, but lost the item moments later. The item was taken by Ursa and for the next 10 minutes, Team Liquid and EG battled continuously for survival. The rapier fell twice more, before EG secured the first half with a mega creep.
With elimination in sight, Team Liquid drafted a draft with more heroes to defend against, such as Viper, who is also suitable for long play. EG showed long-standing intent as well by choosing Specter. Timbersaw became EG’s final choice given for Sumail to play. Even though it was a long game that became the strategy of both teams, the second half was played quickly. EG took control of the map via their super aggressive support heroes, Dark Willow and Lich. They only took about 30 minutes to make it 2-0 and won their match in DotA 2 TI8.
That’s the information about the fifth day of the main event of the MOBA DotA 2 The International 2021 games tournament. Look forward to the continuation, only at Kabargames.id!
