Format, Participants, and Qualification Pairing of The Kuala Lumpur Major Southeast Asia Division

The Southeast Asia regional closed qualifiers for The Kuala Lumpur Major will start tomorrow. The eight best Southeast Asian teams will compete for two tickets to the first Major tournament at the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit.

The eight participating teams consisted of four teams that received direct invitations, namely Mineski, TNC, Fnatic, and Execration. While the remaining four came from two open qualifiers. The Tigers and Lotac came from the first open qualifier, while the Sterling Global Dragons and Team Admiral came from the second open qualifier.

In this qualifier, eight teams will be divided into two groups with a GSL/GSL format.double elimination best of three. This group phase only serves as seeding for the next round using the format double elimination best of three. The two best teams from each group qualify for the upper bracket, while the rest have to start from lower bracket. The two teams that managed to survive until the end in the second phase were entitled to advance to The Kuala Lumpur Major.

If you look at the team composition, group A will definitely be a hell group. In that group are Fnatic and Mineski, the two strongest teams on paper in Southeast Asia at the moment. Then with them were the Tigers led by 1437 and where InYourDream and Xepher played. Unmitigated, the Tigers themselves had to directly face Fnatic in the first match.

While in group B there is no team that stands out too much other than TNC. However, when viewed from the players, the other three teams were clearly able to provide significant resistance, especially Lotac and Execration. If not careful, TNC could slip and lose to Lotac in the first match.

In the end, this is the first regional qualifier in Southeast Asia. For some teams, this qualifier is also a match official their first.
