EA Talks About Battlefront 2 Lootbox Controversy
Behind the heated controversy about lootboxes in EA’s latest game, Star Wars Battlefront II, Electronic Arts’ CFO Blake Jorgensen gave his response to the lootbot problem and the microtransaction system. Speaking today at the 37th Nasdaq Investors Conference, Jorgensen described this heated situation as a “learning experience”.
“This is a great learning experience for us, we think of ourselves as a learning organization,” he explained. “If we don’t learn it means we fail in some way and we are constantly trying to see what people are doing and how they are playing and listening to them to decide the best way to build a great game.”
“If we don’t make mistakes along the way and learn from them, that’s when you should worry about us.” He added that at the time EA removed microtransactions from Battlefront II because players felt they were under a “pay-to-win” scenario.
“The reality is there are different types of players in the game. Some people have more time than money, and some people have more money than time,” he said. “You want to always balance the two.”
