Banned from playing PUBG Mobile, Indian youth commits suicide

Telset.id, Jakarta-The Indian government’s policy of banning PUBG Mobile and hundreds of other applications from China took its toll. An Indian teenager reportedly committed suicide due to frustration at not being able to play PUBG Mobile.

Reported Telset.id from Gizmochina on Tuesday (08/09/2021), a 21-year-old youth named Pritam Halder was found dead by suicide.

The young man who lives in Nadia district in West Bengal, India, hanged himself in his room on Friday (04/09/2021). Halder’s mother initially called Halder for lunch.

Halder was silent and when he checked the door to his son’s room was locked from the inside. His mother then asked the neighbors to open the door and it turned out that Halder was found dead hanging from the ceiling near the fan.

Police also asked Halder’s mother about the death. His mother suspected that Halder hanged himself due to frustration that he could not play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG Mobile) because it was banned by the government.

“He used to play games at night. I think he killed himself because he couldn’t continue playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds,” he said.

In another case, a 16-year-old boy living in a village in the Anand district of Ahmedabad India committed suicide after he was scolded by his father who confiscated his cell phone.

His father confiscated his cellphone because the teenager was too addicted to PUBG Mobile and always played all the time.

Local police said the teenager was the son of a school teacher and was suspected of having committed suicide by consuming pesticides stored in his home.

The suicide took place on Monday (31/08/2021). The teenager was taken to the Anand Civil Hospital for treatment but his life could not be saved, so he died the next day.

Earlier, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology released an official statement regarding the 118 applications that were banned on the grounds that they were “injurious to India’s sovereignty and integrity, defence, security and public order”.

Apart from PUBG Mobile which is blocked by the Indian government, there are a number of apps and games games popular who are also “victims”. Among them, Alipay, Baidu, WeChat Work, PUBG Mobile Lite, WeChat Reading, to Arena of Valor (AoV).

This rule applies to platform Android as well as iOS. However, in the official statement it is not stated when this blocking takes effect.

The Indian government also confirmed that hundreds of applications and games The blocked Chinese origin is accused of stealing and illegally transmitting user data to servers located outside India. [NM/HBS]
