10 Differences Manga and Anime Dragon Ball Super
The second half of this decade is the perfect time to become a fan of the legendary Dragon Ball series, from Dragon Ball Z, Heroes or GT. Not only are there new video games coming out next year, but there are movies that continue the Super Saiyan stories, and there are new television series after two decades of not airing. Talking about Dragon Ball super, do you know the difference between Anime and Manga series?
Since anime and manga are done on completely different time schedules, people who have enjoyed both are well aware that they are actually very different from each other. So in this list, we are going to take a look at the ten main differences between Dragon Ball Super manga and anime.
Super Saiyan Blue Stamina Difference
During the original Universal battle between Universe 6 and 7, Vegeta faced off against Hit, and was essentially defeated. Despite Hit’s ability to stop time, for no reason explained, Vegeta couldn’t defend himself. Goku steps in, knowing what Hit can do, and comes close to winning.
In the manga, it turns out that Vegeta has transformed into Super Saiyan Blue many times before, significantly draining his stamina, leaving only a small amount of power when he fights Hit.
Using Kaioken with Super Saiyan Blue
Something that might surprise anime fans is, in the Manga there is never really an instance where Goku uses Super Saiyan Blue, along with Kaioken (a signature move he learned from King Kai that doubles his power level). Some theories have suggested that doing both would make it explode, but the manga once suggested that Kaioken would not work when the transformation was active.
On the other hand in the Anime story, when he is in battle with Hit, he uses something similar to Kaioken, but it ends in failure, and Hit points out that destroying his body will not help him against Hit’s power.
No Super Saiyan Anger in Manga

This might be a bit of a blow to Future Trunks fans. During the Goku Black arc, Trunks never went into Super Saiyan Rage or Super Saiyan Anger form. This is of course the form Trunks uses in the anime, who somehow manages to have Super Saiyan gold aura and Super Saiyan Blue blue aura, which helps him keep pace with Goku Black and even scores one final blow on him before he uses nukes and tries to absorb the entire universe. .
There’s no explanation as to how he got this form, but the manga doesn’t have it, Future Trunks just being Perfected Super Saiyan 2. The manga version of Trunks wasn’t as strong as the result, and ended up losing his fight to Zamasu/Goku Black.
Manga Not Adapting F Resurrection
Technically, the Dragon Ball Super manga doesn’t really adapt the Frieza Awakening storyline. There is a separate manga that adapts part of that story, but for those who want to see Vegeta give Frieza a defeat, they have to watch the movie.
It is still canon in both manga and anime, although Toriyama played a major role in overseeing both series. Additionally, Frieza appears in the Tournament of Power during both series, and appears to play an equally important role in both.
God of Destruction Battle
In the anime, right before the Tournament of Power, there is an initial battle between the Trio of Dangers from Universe 9 against Goku, Gohan, and Buu. This was meant to be a battle to show to Future Zeno.
In the manga, we see a completely different, and arguably more interesting, battle. To cheer up the two Zenos, the Gods of Destruction agreed to battle against each other. It was a short and brutal conflict, but even the Gods of Everything couldn’t keep up with what they were doing, and instead they came up with the idea of holding a tournament “only” using humans from other universes.
The 10th member of Universe 7
During the anime, one of the main plot points of the Tournament of Power is Goku’s search for the tenth member of the squad. They try to take Buu, but he sleeps, and in the end they decide to ask Frieza to help them. They don’t even consider Yamcha, and this is very funny because Yamcha is sure they will eventually ask for it.
But in the manga, as usual they immediately start considering some of their old friends, including Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and even think about how to get Future Trunks to work with them. They ended up choosing Frieza too, but at least they respected the others enough to consider their old friend.
Gohan vs Kefla . fight
After a humiliating defeat at the hands of Frieza, Gohan learns that he cannot let anyone else fight for him. Working alongside Piccolo, he regains most of his hidden powers. And just as the Buu Saga gave Gohan the power that allowed him to no longer need Super Saiyan, the manga did too.
He continues to grow “as a human” and manages to defeat a much more dangerous version of Kefla, as this version of Kale manages to take on most of the universe’s warriors alone.
Who Teaches Goku Ultra Instinct?
This one became a topic of contention for anime fans over manga. During the tournament, when Goku begins to see Jiren as invincible, Roshi steps up and decides to show Goku what he’s been missing as he continues his search for his next strength.
He reminds Goku that no one who has trained him in the past, from Kami, King Kai to Roshi himself, has ever focused on teaching him about strength alone. And for a moment, he managed to dodge several of Jiren’s punches, before being knocked out of the arena once Jiren got serious.
Differences in How to Get Ultra Instinct

In the anime, Goku briefly attained his imperfect Ultra Instinct form several times during the tournament. First, it happened when he was hit with his own Spirit Bomb, his energy was zero, and he was in touch with his inner thoughts. Then, that was how he fought against and defeated Kefla.
However in the manga, he only activates his imperfect form once before reaching his perfect form a second time. This is believed to be the end of Goku’s training of some of the best trainers on Earth and in the universe (Master Roshi). His body shrunk to his Super Saiyan God form, and he could only use it briefly, but it was long enough to defeat Jiren.
Ki . Control Difference
The latest arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga introduces a new way of fighting for the series. For one thing, the newest villains are able to drain energy so quickly that Goku and Vegeta are both unable to maintain their Super Saiyan Blue forms, and have even drained Goku to the point where he can’t use Instant Transmission.
In the latest chapter, Vegeta has traveled to the planet Yardrat to learn some of their moves to become more effective against the new villain, the mystical monster Moro. These moves don’t seem to be based on strength, but manipulating one’s ki in other ways.
So that was the basic difference between the anime and manga series in Dragon Ball Super. If there is something you missed, don’t hesitate to leave a comment in the comments column, okay! Stay tuned for the latest and updated news about anime, manga and games only at Kabar Games!
