Black Desert Online On Steam Can Be Played Without a VPN?!

For lovers MMORPG, maybe name Black Desert Online will sound familiar to the ear. Black Desert Online is a sandbox MMORPG developed by Pearl Abyss. This game has been in development since 2010 and is entering its Closed Beta Testing (CBT) in October 2013. Black Desert Online using their own engine, namely Black Desert engine built to handle fast map rendering for their borderless world.

On May 24, 2021 yesterday, they released this game on Steam at a price of $ 14.99 or equivalent to Rp. 210,000 and is in a state of 40% discount until June 1 (Region SEA does not get this game, only a few regions).

There was news that this game could be purchased with a third party seller or from a third party. But it was also received news that this game does not need to use a VPN and can be played directly. Is it true?

Because I’m a game lover MMORPG, I tried to test with 2 experiments:

  1. Without Using VPN
  2. Using VPN

In the first photo, you can see that the ping latency reached 300+. In addition, in this game the most comfortable latency to play is around 60 – 140.

In the second photo, you can see the ping latency has decreased to 100+ using a VPN.

It can be concluded that it can be played without a VPN but not in a comfortable position to play. What about providers who are ‘unblocked’ from Indonesia?

I had time to try this game using a provider that supports regional outsiders and the result was a latency of around 100 – 130, quite satisfying to be able to play this game without using a VPN.

It can also be concluded that we can play this game depending on the provider we use. And also I do not recommend that you buy this game, if you want to try playing it, “Do It With Your Risk“. Why?

Because there had been a similar case, namely the game Tree of Savior released on Steam. Due to the large number of players playing from outside the region, developers Tree of Savior swiftly immediately closed all access from the outside region to the game. Pretty sad isn’t it?

Will this happen with Black Desert Online?

I think it could happen but it depends on the developer himself whether to immediately close all access from outside regions or not. We’ll just wait for the future.

Black Desert Online can be played for free (F2P) in the Korean, Japanese and Russian regions, but in Europe and North America the game can be played with Pay to Play (P2P).
