Ubisoft Ends Free-to-Play Game, Ghost Recon

Telset.id, Jakarta – Free-to-play games based on popular franchises are currently a big trend. However, as Microsoft showed us this week by canceling Halo Online for Russia, the trend doesn’t promise much success. Ubisoft followed this step by shutting down the Ghost Recon Phantoms game, formerly known as Ghost Recon Online.

“It wasn’t as successful as we expected, so we had to make a decision to close the game immediately. This decision was not easy for us, and we are trying to find another way. But in the end we decided to close the game and focus on other projects.” wrote Ubisoft obtained from the Euro Forum.

A post on a US blog even makes a slightly harsh statement about this. They state that hopefully players don’t have a lot of money in the “game wallet”, as there is no way to get a refund for it.

Ubisoft also explicitly noted that there will be no sequel, nor will the player numbers be disclosed and fans of the game will not be able to host the game for them to play on their own.

The server from Ghost Recon itself will be shut down on December 1st. But if you’re still addicted to “investing” in free-to-play games, you should be more careful.

Because unlike other games, namely Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, or League of Legends, they can close at any time and take your money regardless of who will be responsible. So be smart in playing the game huh![FHP/HBS]
