Riot Games Has a Plan to Overcome the Smurfs in VALORANT!
In any competitive game, one of the most annoying things players have to face is playing against smurf accounts, and this happens in Valorant too.
Where experienced players will deliberately lose the game to get into a lower rank where they can dominate the game.
Cases of smurfing have been going on since the first Valorant released and since the game is free, players can easily create a new account just by having a new email address.
Players have raised their grievances to Riot Games complaining that the smurfs spoil their gaming experience as smurfs can easily dominate matches if their skill gap is big enough.
Riot Games plans to take on the smurfs in Valorant
In this week’s Ask Valorant blog post, Riot explained their plan to stop the smurfs, and gave a sneak peek of the new system they’ve developed to deal with this problem.
“Smurfs are always annoying, especially when you’re risking your rank,” wrote Valorant Senior Producer Ian Fielding.
“While it is difficult to stop smurfing completely in free games, we are taking action to combat it.” he continued.
On his blog, Ian goes on to explain the system that the Riot Games development team is developing to stop the Smurfs.
“We currently have a behind-the-scenes system for Unrated as well as a system that applies to players ranked Iron to Diamond.”

“For the ranked smurf system, this system will track individual performance and know when players are making a very disproportionate impact in the game
“We then quickly upgraded them to more difficult matches and ranked higher in the Competitive.”
“We stopped making use of this system for Immortal+ players because there isn’t much room to smurf or tinker when you’re near the top of the rankings.”

Riot is well-known enough to have a good relationship with its gaming community, and their response to the smurfs in Valorant is a testament to that.
