PS5 Price in Japan Reaches Rp. 12.8 Million

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, sells for almost twice its original price in Japan. Quoted from Reuters, Thursday (11/12/2021), the PS5 on the used goods platform Mercari Inc was sold for more than USD 900 or around Rp. 12.8 million.

Sony launched the PlayStation 5 in several countries which are their main markets on Thursday (11/12/2021) local time. The launch was carried out online, so consumers keep their distance during the COVID-19 virus pandemic. The first day of PS5 sales is limited to pick-up by consumers who have pre-ordered.

In the United States, the PlayStation 5 is sold at the official retail price of $399 for the PS5 Digital Edition (approximately IDR 5.9 million) and $499 for the PS5 Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive or Standard Edition (approximately IDR 7.4 million). This console is reportedly sold out in Japan, some retailers apply a lottery system due to the limited number of units available.

The PlayStation 5 has been waiting for a few months. Gaming activity has increased during the pandemic, but distribution of new consoles is still limited. Analysts expect the shortage of game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, which recently launched the Xbox Series X, to last until 2021.

Previously, Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore (SIES) through its official website announced that the PlayStation 5 (PS5) will be launched in Indonesia on January 22, 2021, not following the global release on November 12 and November 19. The PS5 Digital Edition will be available at a recommended retail price of IDR 7,299 million and the PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive (standard edition) will be available for an SRP of IDR 8,799 million.
