Telset.id, Jakarta – Sports apparel company, Nike has officially partnered with eSport athletes as their ambassadors. Reportedly, Nike gave a sponsorship contract to one of the League of Legends eSport athletes, Jian Zihao.
Reported Telset.id from Uberizmo, Wednesday (10/24/2021), the athlete who is better known as Uzi will perform a duet with basketball legend, LeBron James.
They will enter into the “Dribble & Carry” campaign, to release a new Nike t-shirt.
In fact, what Nike is doing is a unique phenomenon. Because, usually they sponsor athletes and physical sports teams, such as FC Barcelona, Manchester City, to Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Nike’s steps are also quite different, because other sports apparel companies such as Puma, Adidas or Reebok, mostly sponsor physical sports athletes such as soccer, basketball, and tennis athletes.
Currently, the prestige of eSports is on the rise with many tournaments and championships offering attractive prizes. The peak, recently the World Olympic Committee recognized eSports as a sporting activity, which increases the possibility that eSports are part of the Olympic Games.
In Indonesia, eSports has also received attention from the government, especially the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo). At the opening of the South East Asian Cyber Arena (SEACA) eSports Tournament, Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara said that the government supports eSports in Indonesia.
