Game Publishers Must Register Their Products with PBESI, IeSPA Banten: This Is Obviously Keblinger!

GAMEFINITY.ID, Salatiga – Chairman of the Indonesian eSports Association (IESPA) Banten Province, Ucu Nur Arief Jauhar criticized the regulations of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI) regarding the Implementation of Esports Activities in Indonesia.

According to Ucu, the regulations made by PBESI are considered ambiguous and can potentially violate the law. In the regulation of PBESI CHAPTER XVIII of Games and Game Publishers, article 39 paragraph (1) explains that PBESI can develop, regulate, and supervise the games that apply in Indonesia. Then in paragraph (5) it is stated, Game Publishers are required to register their publications with PBESI to operate in Indonesia.

Seeing these regulations, Ucu revealed that the chapters and articles regarding games could potentially damage the game market in Indonesia and also trigger a monopoly in the gaming industry.

“This is clearly a blunder. PBESI is only an e-Sports organization, not the government. So they do not have the right to regulate games circulating in Indonesia. This is called trying to monopolize the gaming industry. This can hamper the growth of the game industry in Indonesia. PBESI is already confused,” said Ucu.

In Indonesia, there is actually an organization that regulates the circulation of games and the game rating system in Indonesia, namely the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS). IGRS itself operates directly under the direction of the Ministry of Communication and Information.

Then Ucu also explained that through these regulations, PBESI can be seen as having a higher position than other esports associations such as IeSPA and AVGI.

“PBESI is only one of the esports organizations, not the only one. Besides PBESI, there are IeSPA, AVGI, Club eSports, communities and others. IeSPA is also recognized by the government and is a member of KORMI. AVGI is also recognized as an Esports organization through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. So are the others.”

“PBESI and IeSPA are equal, just different fields of work. So the PBESI regulations cannot regulate the entire world of esports in Indonesia. Not to mention that people’s rights to exercise or do esports cannot be limited by an organization’s regulations. PBESI is not the government,” said Ucu.
