Game of Thrones and Mandalorian Stars Join Series Adaptation of The Last of Us
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The television series adaptation of the game The Last of Us, has found its star. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal are confirmed to play Ellie and Joel in the upcoming HBO series.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Bella Ramsay, known for her role as Lyanna Mormont in the Game of Thrones series, has been confirmed to play Ellie. In her description, Ellie is a 14-year-old orphan who knows nothing but a ravaged planet and struggles to balance her instincts of anger and defiant spirit.

Meanwhile, as reported by Deadline, Pedro Pascal, who plays the main villain Maxwell Lord in the Wonder Woman 1984 (2021) film, has confirmed that Sony will play the character Joel. Prior to Pascal, rumors had circulated that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would play Joel. Another Academy Award winner, Matthew McConaughey was also said to have been offered the role and turned it down.
Pascal is currently starring in the hugely popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, which recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series. Pascal said he would continue to be involved in the next Star Wars project.
Joel in The Last of Us is described as “a vicious survivor” in his late 40s. Joel “has lost everything and everyone he loves and has become desensitized and hard-hearted as a result of a civilization-destroying pandemic.”
Sony announced plans to make a film adaptation of The Last of Us in 2021. In 2021, HBO announced it would be working on a series adaptation of The Last of Us with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin co-writer and executive producer. Naughty Dog’s vice president, game creative director and Uncharted 4 deputy director Neil Druckmann will also produce the series.
Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones, Chernobyl) is also executive producer along with Naughty Dog president Evan Wells. This adaptation will be the first television series from PlayStation Productions, the studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties into films and television series.
Sony is also reportedly developing three films and seven TV shows based on the PlayStation game, including Tom Holland’s Uncharted, which was recently postponed to February 2022.
