Fissure fined $3,000 for leaking Overwatch League information

The Overwatch League is taking serious steps on disciplinary issues. Former Seoul Dynasty Main tank Baek “Fissure” Chan-hyung returned to the league this week by joining the Vancouver Titans. Before he can start his new 2021 season, he will have to face a $3,000 fine for leaking sensitive Overwatch League information.

On June 26, 2021, the outspoken tank player retired from the Seoul Dynasty and professional Overwatch competitions for unknown reasons. Shortly after his retirement announcement, Fissure streamed on his personal Twitch channel to chat with fans.

During the stream, Fissure leaked information about the upcoming 2-2-2 role lock to the Overwatch League in stage four. “I’m retired now so I’ll say it. The next stage, stage four, the role lock 2-2-2 can be confirmed,” said Fissure, according to a translation of the post on Reddit.

Even though at that time the role lock was still just a rumor. Many outlets have reported on the potential for role rules to be developed, but no confirmation or announcement has come from the Overwatch League itself. Role locks were officially added to the league a few weeks later.

When Fissure rejoined the league last week, many Overwatch League fans wondered if he would face the consequences for his actions. No official announcement or statement has been made by the Overwatch League, however discipline tracker The league has been quietly updated and has put a penalty on Fissure.

Tracker stated that Fissure “was fined US$3,000 for sharing classified league information.” League players and staff are reported to have knowledge of role locks weeks in advance so they can prepare a strategy.

Fissure isn’t the only Overwatch League player facing a monetary fine for his actions. Earlier this year, Lee “Rise” Won-Jae was fined US$1,000 for account boosting. The most memorable fine was received by Park “Profit” Joon-yeong, who had to pay US$1,000 for accidentally raising his middle finger during a live broadcast.
