5+ Ways to Create Hotspot on Laptop Without Software! (100% Working)

Many do not know that a laptop can be used as a hotspot.

With this hotspot, we can share our internet connection with other users who are connected via a tablet or smartphone. Not only used on laptops, this tutorial can also be practiced on a PC provided that the PC is already embedded Wi-Fi adapter.

How to create a hotspot on a laptop is very easy, it can even be done without any software, just through the default Windows CMD tool. To create your own hotspot on a laptop, we take advantage of a feature from windows called hosted netword. With this hosted network, we can share files or internet connections without the need to use third-party software.

How to Make Hotspot on Laptop

I will explain in as much detail as possible until the hotspot that you create manually can later be used for browsing as well, not just sharing files. To make it easier for you to understand the tutorial on how to create a hotspot on this laptop, I deliberately made a table of contents which you can see below:

Step 1 – Enabling Hotspot Via CMD

1. Make sure you are connected to the internet, either via a USB modem or a LAN cable. In the following article, I use a Huawei brand USB modem for the source of the internet connection later.

Notes: As far as I know the wifi network can’t be used as a source of internet connection, I’ve also tried it but it keeps failing.

2. Next open Command Prompt as admin. You can search through Start Menu, then type “command prompt”, then right click select Run as administrator.

3. Type the command: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="Nesaba Media" key=nesaba123. Change Nesaba Media with the hotspot name (SSID) you want. To change the hotspot password, change nesaba123 with the password you want. Next press Enter.

4. Next type the command: netsh wlan start hostednetwork, then press Enter. This command is used to activate the hosted network that you created earlier.

Step 2 – Enable Internet Connection Sharing

You need to activate the feature internet connection sharing so that users connected to your hotspot can browse too. How to? Check out the steps below:

1. Pay attention to the network icon located at the bottom right of your desktop.

2. Then right-click the network icon, then select Open Network and Sharing Center.

3. As you can see in the picture below, there are 2 active networks. The first is hosted network (hotspot that we created), and the second is the internet connection from the USB modem. I’m already connected to the internet via my USB modem (I use Indosat provider).

4. The hotspot that we created earlier has a connection name Local Area Connection* 12. Next we need to arrange so that the internet connection from the USB modem can be shared to the hotspot that we created earlier, namely: Local Area Connection* 12. Just click Cellular (indosat).

4. Next select Properties.

5. Move to tab Sharing.

6. Tick “Allow other network users to….” then on Home networking connections, choose Local Area Connection* 12. Next select OK.

7. As you can see in the image below, on the hosted network (Nesaba Media) there is the text Access type: Internett. This indicates that the internet connection from your USB modem has been successfully shared to your hotspot.

So users who are connected to your hotspot can send files and surf to each other. Even so, there is one more thing you need to do, namely turn off the firewall on your windows.

Step 3 – How to Turn Off Firewall in Windows

This firewall actually has a very important role, namely filtering the flow of data that goes out / enters the network. However, in this case, this firewall often blocks the entry and exit of data flow between your hotspot and your USB modem connection (maybe considered dangerous and unsafe).

So do not be surprised if there is a failure / error when entering your hotspot, even though you have entered the password correctly. You can see the steps on how to turn it off below:

1. If you install an antivirus, whether it’s Avast, Avira, ESET or other antivirus, usually the firewall settings are set by your antivirus. And of course the location of the firewall settings on each antivirus is different. For example, I use Avast Premier.

2. Open Avast Premier.

3. On the menu Protection, choose Firewall.

4. Click button ON to turn off your firewall.

5. Select Stop until your next restart (the firewall will be reactivated after the laptop is restarted).

6. The firewall has been successfully disabled.

But for those of you who don’t have any antivirus installed on your laptop, you can turn off the firewall easily through the following article.

Step 4 – Connect to Your Hotspot

After we turn off the firewall on windows, it’s time for us to connect to the hotspot that we created. The method can be seen below:

1. Turn on your WiFi.

2. Find the name of the SSID (your hotspot), namely: Nesaba Media.

3. Enter the hotspot password that we created earlier, namely: nesaba123. Then select Connect.

4. Tadaah, now we can surf through the hotspot that we make ourselves manually, without any software.

Step 5 – How to Turn Off Hotspot

To turn off the hotspot that we have created, just type netsh wlan stop hostednetwork at the command prompt.

That’s how to create a hotspot on a laptop, without the need to use any software. Even so, for those of you who prefer to use software, you can use Connectify, mHotspot, My WIFI Router and other similar software.
