Design

Design

The design offered by the Toshiba Qosmio X75 is quite exclusive. The combination of Black and Red Crome plus a backlit keyboard that glows bright red makes the Toshiba Qosmio X75 have a very thick gaming aura. Some areas are also designed with chrome red frames such as the touchpad and power button.

On the casing, the entire area is textured, especially on the LCD cover, adding the Qosmio logo which will glow red when the notebook is active. Which is quite unfortunate, the chrome red color on the Toshiba Qosmio X75 actually makes the impression of plastic sticking out.

LCD Display

LCD

As we know, toshiba is also a manufacturer of LCD panels whose products are widely used in many notebook brands. Especially for Qosmio, it looks like Toshiba has dedicated one of the best types of lcd panels. The image display on the Toshiba Qosmio X75 is very bright, even when used outdoors, the color gradation is still maintained, you just need to find the right angle of view so that the objects on the LCD appear optimally.

Workstations & Keyboards
Workstation

Carrying the concept of a borderless island, the keyboard on the Toshiba Qosmio X75 appears very eye catching. Plus a bright red backlit (brighter than the Lenovo Y series), making the workstation area look very modern. Unfortunately, like some other toshiba notebooks, the use of the Fn key requires additional combinations because the main function of the Fn key row is dedicated to shortcuts to certain functions such as multimedia control, wireless toggle etc. This makes executing shortcuts to windows programs a bit more difficult. For example, if you want to close an application, you usually just need to press the Alt+F4 key, on the new Toshiba Qosmio X75 you can access it with Alt+Fn+F4. Eit, but don’t worry, because you can make it work like a standard keyboard with change the options in bios settings.

Additional info, there are no other buttons other than the power button that adorns the workstation area, everything is moved to the Fn key combination.

Speaker

Speaker

The sound quality on the Toshiba Qosmio X75 also doesn’t need to be in doubt. Equipped with 4 Harman Kardon speakers, the booming bass, crisp treble and shrill vocals can be clearly enjoyed, unlike other flat notebooks ;D. However, there is no special audio manager application that can be used to enrich the audio range on the Toshiba Qosmio X75. Users can only take advantage of realtek’s built-in audio manager.

Performance

the average synthetic benchmark score decreased during the 2nd trial and so on.
the average synthetic benchmark score decreased during the 2nd trial and so on.

Through futuremark synthetic benchmark testing, the combined performance of the 4th generation Intel Core i7 4700MQ series, GPU Geforce GTX770M 3GB GDDR5 and 16GB RAM (4x4GB pc 1600) is considered less than optimal on this Toshiba Qosmio X75. Supposedly with a very large RAM capacity, the performance could be even better. Although the difference in the final score is not too much compared to the Gigabyte P25W, it is still slightly better than the Alienware 17 2021 Edition.

It seems as a result of increasing heat, CPU capabilities continue to decline.
It seems as a result of increasing heat, CPU capabilities continue to decline.

Which is a little confusing, when tested several times on the same benchmark, the GPU score always increases quite significantly, but the CPU score always gets lower. What Pemmz takes is the first score, because the 2nd test and so on have been affected by external factors.

For PCMark 7 and 3D Mark 2021, the performance of the X75 unit that we reviewed is quite good, at least compared to the results of the reviews outside.

Real World Gaming Test

Battlefield 4

With the Geforce GTX770M, you can already guess the gaming capabilities of this Toshiba Qosmio X75. For the latest demanding games, such as Battlefield 4, the X75 is still able to display an average of 44 FPS at full resolution FullHD with an average preset of “high”. To maximize the visual experience, pemmz recommends pemmZHolics follow Geforce Experience-style optimization.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

In games that fall into this heavy category, the 16GB Ram on the Toshiba Qosmio X75-A7295 is enough to give a significant role. This is when compared to the Gigabyte P25W which only gets an average fps of 44fps, while the X75 is able to achieve an average of 48fps.

Resident Evil 6

RE6 2021-04-02 09-55-08-57
In this open world horror game, the GTX770M on the X75 also looks very powerful. You can get an average FPS above 45 fps with high settings and Full-HD resolution.

Battery & Power Adapter

Battery n adapter

The battery part is a very unfortunate point. This Gaming Notebook with almost right-aligned specifications is only equipped with a small battery, if calculated, maybe only 4 cells with a capacity of 47Wh. This is also supported by the achievements in the battery test that the Pemmz team did with the help of BatteryEatPro. The good news is that the Toshiba Qosmio X75, which the Pemmz team reviewed this time, is ready very light when compared to 17″ gaming notebooks in its class.

Upgrade Options

Upgrade Options

For upgrade options, the Toshiba Qosmio X75 is very tempting, this type provides upgrade options up to the GPU. As pemmZHolics can see in the photo above, for the GPU interface, the Toshiba Qosmio X75 uses an MXM 3.0b slot which in theory can accommodate higher GPUs such as the GTX780M or Quadro KxxxM series.

Unfortunately, with a fairly large barebones, the value of Toshiba has not maximized the Toshiba Qosmio X75 upgrade option which is actually owned by the chipset, especially in the storage sector. On the X75 there are two 2.5 “SATA slots which unfortunately are not supported by the RAID feature. Also the m-SATA slot is absent in this type.

Now, based on the photo above, Pemmz analyzes why the CPU heat dissipation process on the Toshiba Qosmio X75 is very slow. There is only one heatpipe as a heat transfer path from the heatsink section above the CPU to the cooler fin. The flat area for us to attach additional heatsink fins as in the cooling optimization article here, is also minimal. So like it or not, users are required to use 5-star quality thermal paste to help the heat dissipation process. Even then it is a bit difficult to apply because to open access to the CPU area, the user must open all bottom cases. For info, the only parts that the access door can reach are HDD and RAM.

Bonus

IMG_4693

Toshiba understands that entering the gaming market must be smart to increase the selling value through bundling. And specifically for the X75-A7295 that Pemmz reviewed this time, Toshiba bundled the X75 with Hawken and Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 11. A clever and quite tempting strategy according to Pemmz, because it is beneficial for two direct users, gamers and designers.

Conclusion

Considering the price-performance comparison, the Toshiba Qosmio X75-A7295 can be categorized as very “worthed”. With enthusiast class specifications, the price tag is the cheapest. But . . ., concern about CPU heat seems to make this series less attractive out there. Plus, the CPU’s hot air is sure to hit the palm of the hand using a USB mouse. How not, on this X75 there is only 1 fan which is controlled automatically following the temperature sensor on the CPU. And the exhaust hole is positioned right on the right where it is usually used to control the system with an external mouse.

4 So-Dimm slots can be maximized up to 32GB. This is sure to increase the performance of the X75 significantly, especially for those of you who often multitask. Unfortunately, there is no m-SATA slot on this Toshiba Qosmio X75. But with 2 2.5″ SATA slots, you can combine an SSD as a system partition, and an HDD for a DATA partition. Add wuzzz already. . .

Pros:

  • Best of the best Value for money
  • Lightest
  • Super bright screen
  • Backlit Keyboard

Cons:

  • Hot on the right
  • USB port compatibility

Fairs :

  • The battery capacity is minimal, making the mobility capabilities also minimal.
