Riot Games Offers Mental Health Support For Content Creators

For more than a year, the global pandemic shaped the world differently from what many consider normal everyday life, especially during its peak amid lockdowns and various stages of quarantine. At that time, many gamers used streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube to create their content.

As the pandemic progresses, mental health among gamers continues to be a focal point among content creators. Some streamers in the past may have had work experiences that affected their health.

In response to the changing world climate and how it affects public gaming, several companies have offered mental health services for gamers and content creators to pay attention to, including Riot who is also joining in.

Over the weekend, Riot Games announced a partnership with The Public Goods Projects, a non-profit public health company that aims to promote good health and spread awareness on general health topics including drug abuse, vaccinations, and mental health.

According to Riot Games in a statement, its players in North America have mentioned that “good mental health and well-being are of the utmost importance to them.” The company has released a free guide for its creators and players to help inform them of how mental health is misunderstood and positive ways to improve mental health.

With this partnership, the League of Legends developers look forward to providing content creators and players with information throughout the year through free mental health resources, including a guidebook on common misconceptions including the difference between mental illness and mental health.

Riot also discussed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on its players, promoting various methods for players to maintain good mental health despite various stressors in the game and in the life around them.
