Logitech Bridge; VR Dedicated Keyboard For Developers
A peripheral company for PCs and mobile devices, Logitech is a trusted brand that produces quality products. Keeping up with the times, Logitech is always innovating to produce accessories for the needs of its users. The latest is Logitech Bridge which is a special VR keyboard aimed at VR content developers.
According to Logitech, virtual reality will develop not only for entertainment platforms but also for productive functions. And to meet these needs, the Swiss company developed Bridge to support future VR content needs.
Bridge Use
Logitech Bridge is a developer kit aimed at developing VR content-only keyboards. So when users use VR devices to browse or work on their PCs / laptops, they don’t have to fumble around the keyboard or remove the VR head-mounted display just to look for the letters on the keyboard. Bridge will be a ‘bridge’ that connects the keyboard to the virtual world so that users can use the keyboard as usual while using a VR device.
The idea of developing this Bridge arose from user complaints about the presentation of a digital keyboard which was considered less natural, even though the keyboard was used for various activities, not only for gaming or work. Logitech also understands this need because they consider a physical keyboard to be a mandatory device that is universal and can be used for various things. Not only typing letters and numbers, but you can also perform complex commands with various shortcut functions.
Kits For Developers
With Bridge, later developers can develop virtual keyboards for various needs. Users will also be able to see where their hands are on the keyboard and animations when the keyboard keys are pressed. Developers can customize the appearance of the digital version of the keyboard to be more attractive to highlight various important buttons for the VR content they are developing.
The Logitech Bridge developer kit consists of four main elements, namely:
- HTC Vive
- Logitech G gaming keyboard,
- Vive Tracker so that the headset can read the position of those peripherals, and
- Software
The Bridge system is compatible with the HTC Vive, using the Vive Tracker, Logitech G gaming keyboard and accessories that connect the two devices. When you connect the Vive tracker to your keyboard, the Logitech software generates a 3D virtual keyboard that looks exactly like the real thing.
According to information on the official HTC Vive blog, Bridge is compatible with all applications in the SteamVR ecosystem. Bridge operation is also very simple. Developers don’t have to modify their app, just activate the Vive Tracker that comes in the kit and boom! Overlays of applications and games that they are developing will also be available in the virtual world to be customized so that they can be used with VR devices.
Logitech Bridge Price
The Logitech Bridge is not a device that anyone can own like a regular gaming keyboard. Because this keyboard is specifically for developers, those who are interested can directly register for a Bridge purchase via the following order link until November 16, 2021. Only 50 units are available for selected developers with an affordable kit price, which is USD 150 only. But not including USD 99 for Vive Tracker and USD 599 for HTC Vive devices which are sold separately.
