JP van Seventer Wins Lifetime Achievement Awards
Located in Utrecht, there is the latest game news coming from the Dutch Game Garden about JP van Seventer winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dutch Game Awards 2021. Jan-Pieter van Seventer is the Managing Director of the Dutch Game Garden.
This is the first time the award has been presented, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Dutch Game Awards. Anyone in the games industry can vote for the individual or company that has made the most important contribution to the Dutch gaming industry in the last ten years. From this suggestion, three people were nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award: apart from JP, Mark Overmars and Martin de Ronde were also nominated.
JP van Seventer
JP van Seventer won the Lifetime Achievement Awards which is partly because he has had a career of nearly twenty years in the gaming industry, focusing on design, art, management and business development. JP is the co-founder of W! Games (My Horse & Me sports games) and work on Davilex Games (game adaptations of KnightRider, Redcat, Amsterdoom), Overloaded (Fantom Overdrive) and Lunagames (Subway). He is a member of the Creative Council of the Netherlands’ Top Creative Industries Sector, a former member of the GATE game research advisory board, and is a lecturer in game design at the Utrecht University of Fine Arts (HKU).
The reason JP van Seventer won the Lifetime Achievement Awards is because his career is not making it up because he has had a brilliant career. He started working at Dutch Game Garden as Director of Development in 2008, where he supported many new game companies with his experience and knowledge. Since 2021, he is the Managing Director, determining the strategic direction of Dutch Game Garden. Every day JP connects, helps and advises the many professionals, startups, and companies involved in the games industry.
“I get a lot of energy guiding ambitious people and helping them find their place in the industry,” he said.
JP is grateful for his wife’s support, his parents’ inspiration and a highly motivated team. In addition, he also thanked his former colleagues at Dutch Game Garden and Davilex, as well as local and regional authorities. The following is a greeting when JP van Seventer won the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
“This award is not only an acknowledgment for me, but also for the visible and invisible work we do like at Dutch Game Garden. Thanks to the support of the Province of Utrecht, the Municipality of Utrecht and the Economic Council of Utrecht, I was able to devote myself to my mission to help start game development with entrepreneurship.”
Mark Overmars and Martin de Ronde
Although JP van Seventer won the Lifetime Achievement Awards, Dutch Game Garden would like to thank Martin de Ronde and Mark Overmars for their contribution to the Dutch game industry. Martin de Ronde is the director of Lost Boys Games, which was merged in 2003 into Guerilla Games, the largest game studio in the Netherlands. There, he saw the start of the successful Killzone franchise on PlayStation 2, 3 and 4. Later, Martin became Creative Director at Vanguard Games, now known as the VR company Forcefield. In addition, he founded OneBigGame, a non-profit publisher that assists in the development of games with other developers listed for the benefit of charitable organizations.
Mark Overmars is the founder of research and education in games technology at the University of Utrecht. As a GameMaker software developer, Mark has made a huge impact on developers, students, and game enthusiasts around the world. Leading game developers use GameMaker to create successful games such as Nuclear Throne, Spelunky, Undertale, Hyper Light Drifter, Gunpoint, Nidhogg and Hotline Miami. Mark is the founder or owner of several gaming companies, including YoYo Games, Tingly Games, CoolGames, and Qlvr. Currently, he is working on a community platform for fans and musicians at his start-up Fans4Music.
Without the efforts of Mark Overmars and Martin de Ronde, Dutch Game Garden would not be what it is today. They are responsible for the formation of DJPK members and board members in the first stage of the game incubator. Dutch Game Garden congratulates all the winners of the Dutch Game Awards.
