Bethesda Removes Fallout 76's Battle Royale Mode
Nuclear Winter, Fallout 76’s battle royale mode, says goodbye. The mode will be removed permanently in a September update, quoted from the Bethesda website, the battle royale mode has not proven popular enough and Bethesda will prioritize Adventure Mode for Fallout 76.
This is slightly evidenced by a reddit post regarding the controversial decision for the Fallout 76 playerbase segment, Nuclear Winters only supports PvP mode games. Survival, a version of the game that focuses on open world PvP on the main map of the Appalachia game, was also set in March 2021.
Bethesda noted that a major part of its decision-making process was the inability to meet lobbying quickly. “It’s also becoming more difficult to unify the full Nuclear Winter lobby without sacrificing match wait times,” the post reads.
In a community post, Bethesda wrote:
We know that some of you really like Nuclear Winter, and you may find this news disappointing. Ending support for fashion is a tough decision, and not one we make easy. We’re still working on providing PVP combat methods for those who enjoy fighting against other former Vault Dwellers, and a little later this year, we’ll be releasing details on how we plan to offer players more ways to play Fallout 76. will compensate everyone who participates in Nuclear Winter, from those who only join one match to our most formidable Overseers in battle.
“I love NW, but you can’t put zero effort into game mode and expect it to maintain the player base,” wrote one player on the games subreddit.
“Both maps are very old and boring now, no new or limited rewards in a very long time, no rewards after level 100, hackers are still rampant on PC, damn gouache guns are almost as bad as hackers, CAMP blueprinting/making should be a much more viable style of play.”
Even role-players have struggled with the lack of PvP combat, as playing battles in character is difficult when the game system doesn’t allow you to do so. It remains to be seen what will be added to Fallout for PvP combat, and players participating in Nuclear Winter will receive in-game rewards in return.
