ASUS A451LB Review: Replacement of the legendary A46CB + RAM Upgrade Tutorial

It’s very difficult to replace a product line that sells well if the vendor doesn’t think about what the strengths of the product are. Well, this is something that seems to have been carefully thought out by ASUS in replacing the notebook that was rife in the ASUS A46CB market with the ASUS A451LB. So here’s a review of the ASUS A451LB plus a tutorial on upgrading RAM that is often asked.

The Pemmz team is very curious about the performance of the A451LB that replaces ‘the legend‘ A46CB, therefore the Pemmz Team took the time to review this notebook as completely as possible.

Design

The design of the A451LB is not much different from the A46CB because both are still in the clamshell style so they still have an elegant and sturdy impression at the same time. The material he uses is the same as his older brother, most of them use plastic to use lighten up this notebook.

Even though slim this notebook still retains the presence of the drive DVD-RW on the right side which is also accompanied by a USB 2.0 port, a 3.5-inch headphone jack, and a card reader. On the left side there are 2 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a LAN port, a Kensington lock port, and a DC adapter jack for charging purposes.

There are only three LED indicators on the front side of this notebook, making it even more visible minimalist. At the bottom you will not find a slot for a battery because the A451LB uses a “Uni-Body” so that the battery directly embedded in this notebook.

The heat dissipation exhaust is on the lower left so you no need to worry about your right hand being affected by heat when using the mouse.

The specifications of the hardware on the A451LB are quite amazing if we look at the price not up to 10 million rupiah, Pemmz team tested the A451LB with several benchmark programs, here are some test results:

Judging from the results of the tests carried out by the Pemmz Team, it is certain that this notebook is capable do office work which does not require high graphics performance or play 3D games light. The battery life of this notebook is quite strong, apart from the results of Battery Eater Pro (following), the use of the A451LB for browsing and office work can last up to 5 hours non-stop.

The Pemmz team had the opportunity to ‘Disassemble’ the A451LB to check the architectural design changes from ASUS. The A451LB uses an integrated 4GB DDR3 RAM memory, but there is an empty slot for memory upgrades which the Pemmz Team will discuss in the video below:

But very unfortunate on the A451LB no mSata slots available so you can’t add an SSD to increase the HDD’s performance.

Conclusion

Like ASUS has been successfully produced a successor product for the A46CB which had become a ‘Hype’ in the market. The design and performance presented by the A451LB is indeed very pampering, not to mention the pocket-friendly price. However, with this price, there are definitely limitations that you have to accept, such as only 1 DDR3 slot available for upgrade purposes and there is no mSata slot on this notebook.

Pros:

  • 3D performance is quite good in its class
  • Slim body – clamshell design
  • Strong battery life

Cons:

  • Minimal Upgrade Options
  • All-integrated components
