3+ How to Enter Safe Mode on Windows 10 (All Laptop Brands)
When we experience problems on our computers / laptops, especially those related to our Windows system, then to solve our problems we generally take advantage of the Safe Mode feature.
Safe mode is a condition where the Windows operating system runs with minimal conditions, where only important files & drivers will be activated, this is usually done when troubleshooting a problem on your computer.
Usually, I will activate safe mode when there are some applications that make me unable to enter on my windows desktop, of course this is very annoying. Therefore, entering the desktop in safe mode is highly recommended for troubleshooting.
3 Ways to Enter Safe Mode in Windows 10
In versions of Windows 7 and earlier, to enter Safe Mode, it is enough to press the F8 key before booting, but since the appearance of Windows 8 to the latest version (Windows 10), this method has been replaced. Here are three ways to enter Safe Mode on Windows 10 that you can try.
1. Using the System Configuration Tool (msconfig.exe)
One way to enter Safe Mode on Windows 10 is through System Configuration.
This method is quite easy, you just have to check Safe Boot in System Configuration and restart, then your computer will automatically enter Safe Mode. Here’s the full tutorial:
1. The first step we have to do is enter the menu msconfig by typing “System Configuration” on the Start menu.
Another way is to use Run, by pressing Windows + R on the keyboard. And then type msconfig then press Enter or OK.
2. After window System Configuration open, select tab Boot and tick Safe Boot.
There are four options that can be used in the Safe Boot setting mode, namely:
- Minimum: Run Safe Mode with only essential drivers and services, using the Windows GUI interface.
- Alternate Shells : Running Safe Mode with Command Prompt, without Windows GUI. This option requires more knowledge about command text, because it doesn’t use the mouse to operate.
- Active Directory Repair: Running Safe Mode by providing access to complete information on computer components. This feature is usually used to repair hardware that failed to install.
- Networks : Run Safe Mode with the services and drivers needed to access the network, using the Windows GUI interface.
After finishing setting Boot Options Press Enter or OK. Windows will give a notification to reboot.
If you still have something to do, you can choose “Exit Without Restart”. If not, you can restart it now and your computer will automatically enter Safe Mode.
To be able to boot normally again you have to return the settings to their original state by unchecking the Safe Boot.
2. Using the Shift + Restart Combination
Another way to enter Safe Mode is to use the Shift + Restart combination. The method is:
1. Open menu Start and Click menu Power.
2. Press and hold the button Shift while clicking Restart.
3. When finished, three options will appear. choose Troubleshoot.
4. On the Troubleshoot screen select Advanced Options.
5. Then on the Advanced Options screen select Startup Settings.
6. Windows will tell you to restart to change Advanced Boot settings, including enabling Safe Mode. choose Restart.
7. After restarting, you will enter the Startup Settings screen. There are three options to enter Safe Mode, each option I have explained in the tutorial Method 1.
8. To enter Safe mode normally press the button F4.
3. Using Advanced Startup
This last method is almost the same as the second method, the only difference is how to enter the Troubleshoot screen.
1. The first step is to enter Settings by pressing Windows + I.
2. Click Updates & Security, and select tab Recovery.
3. In the Advanced Startup section, click the button Restart now to enter the Troubleshoot screen
4. The next step to enter the Safe Mode menu is the same as I explained above Method 2 on this tutorial.
Those are the three ways to enter safe mode on Windows 10 that you can try. The safest way to troubleshoot your Windows damage is to enter safe mode first. In your opinion, which is the easiest way?
