Warriors Orochi 4: The Battle with the Gods!

If we go back to the PlayStation 2 era, there are quite a lot of hack & slash genre games that were liked by many gamers at that time. One of the most popular hack & slash game series is the Dynasty Warrios series and its variants, such as Warriors Orochi.

After several years of success with various Dynasty Warriors series, Koei Tecmo tries to add a new formula to the game. Based on the idea in the Dynasty Warriors 9 series, Koei Tecmo adds an open world feature to its newest game and uses a new engine. However, the new formula was declared a failure after getting negative reactions from fans and finally Koei Tecmo decided to return to the classic hack & slash genre in its newest game, Warriors Orochi 4 which was released recently.

Tells about after the characters in the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series returned to their respective dimensions, then suddenly the god of Greek mythology, Zeus wanted to create a new world that again involved Chinese dynasty figures and Japanese Sengoku figures into one world. again.

Perseus, son of Zeus, wants to stop the plan. Therefore Perseus jumps in and tries to unite the worlds of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors to fight Zeus and provide a weapon with the power of gods to fight Zeus. The story that is raised in this series can be said to be quite interesting and unique.

In terms of gameplay, not much has changed. Because as we mentioned above that in this series Koei Tecmo returns the classic hack & slash gameplay without the open world features like the previous Warriors Orochi series. Like the previous Warriors Orochi series, Warriors Orochi 4 can play three characters at once in one arena and can be changed during the battle.

Not only that, here you can also customize the weapons you use with various available additions, choose a horse, and choose your four support characters. You can’t play the support characters here, but they will help you during battle.

Each scenario takes about 20 minutes which you can complete solo or with your friends. The split screen co-op mode applied to this game is truly an exciting classic element. The level of difficulty in this series also feels more difficult than the previous series.

Talking about the characters, there are lots of characters that you can use in this game. There are a total of 170 character combinations from the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series that can be fully unlocked by completing the missions.

For optimization problems, when playing this game we used a Ryzen 7 1800X, 16 GB RAM, and a Radeon RX 580. It seems that the optimization is lacking because we only got a frame rate of around 40 fps at very high preset. We had to lower the setting to medium-high to get 60 fps and be comfortable.

After almost 20 hours of playing and finishing this game, I can draw the following conclusions

  • Unique and interesting storyline
  • Loading so many characters
  • Amazing background music
  • The presence of mythological creatures such as Cyclops and Griffins brings new colors to the battle
  • repetitive
  • Menu display that feels a bit messy and unattractive
  • Messy character management
  • The background of a place that appears over and over again
